Jowhar, (SONNA) – The African Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS) handed over the Ceel Eglow Forward Operating Base (FOB) in Middle Shabelle region to Somali National Army yesterday, marking the third base transferred in phase 3 of ATMIS troop drawdown.
ATMIS Sector Five Commander, Col. Oscar Hatungimana and SNA’s Brig. Gen. Ibrahim Yusuf Nuur praised the collaboration between ATMIS, the Somali National Armed Forces, local residents, and international partners in degrading Al-Shabaab in the region.
The strategic Ceel Eglow base, previously manned by ATMIS Burundi troops since 2019, protects the Mogadishu-Jowhar Main Supply Route (MSR) and surrounding areas.
