Mogadishu, (SONNA) – The Minister of Planning, Investment, and Economic Development (MoPIED) of the Federal Government of Somalia, H.E. Mohamud A. Sheikh Farah (Beenebeene), welcomed the resumption of key projects in Puntland, which the Puntland State had put on hold but has now allowed to proceed.
“We are very excited to see the resumption of the Barwaaqo and Somalia Food System Resilience Project (SFSRP) projects in Puntland, which signifies a renewed commitment to improving the livelihoods of our people” stated Minister Beenebeene. “These projects are crucial for fostering sustainable development and ensuring a resilient future for all regions.”
The Barwaaqo project, a comprehensive water management and infrastructure development initiative, as well as SFSRP project aims to strengthen the food systems across the federal member states, ensuring food security and promoting sustainable agricultural practices. Both Barwaaqo and SFSRP was earmarked for all Federal Member States; however, Puntland state unilaterally halted their implementation.
“The Federal Government of Somalia, under the leadership of President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud and Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre, is committed in depoliticizing humanitarian and development endeavors across the nation. We are dedicated to ensuring that these projects are implemented with utmost transparency and equity, reaching those in need without any political considerations,” reiterated Minister Beenebeene.
The Barwaaqo project was launched in January 2023 by the Federal Government of S omalia, followed by the Somalia Food Systems Resilience Project (SFSRP) in June 2023.
