Mogadishu, SONNA – The Somali Civil Aviation Authority (SCAA) has denied entry to an Ethiopian Airlines plane that was flying to Hargeisa, the Second capital of Somalia without proper authorization.
The plane, a Dash 8-Q400 with flight number ET8372, was turned back from the airspace of the Republic of Somalia on Wednesday, January 17, 2024, after it became clear that the aircraft did not have any permission to use the Somali air space.
According to the SCAA, the plane violated the international rules of the air (Rules of the air) and the national rules of Somalia for civil aviation regulations (SOMCARs), which require flights to obtain licenses from the countries they fly through and those they land in prior to departure.
The SCAA said it will not allow any unauthorized aircraft to enter the air borders of the country, while maintaining order and working closely with its counterparts in the world. The agency confirmed that the regular flights are going as usual.
