Somalia is facing a humanitarian crisis as heavy rains have caused floods that have killed 14 people and displaced thousands of families in the Jubaland State.

According to officials from Jubbaland State the Bardheere Bridge, which a Connection to the the districts of Gedo region, collapsed on Sunday after being affected by the floods that hit the whole country, especially the Gedo region.

The bridge collapse cleared the water level of the Jubba River and caused a flood, which shows the extent of the damage in the Gedo region, where 4 people died. The flood also triggered landmines and improvised explosive devices (IEDs) that were submerged in the water and posed a threat to the civilians and the security forces.

The people living in Bardheere city expressed great concern about the situation they are in and today two boats were delivered to participate in the rescue of the people trapped in the neighborhoods of the city.

The President of the Jubaland State, Ahmed Mohamed Islam, who spoke about the impact of the floods, said that 450,000 families were affected, while the displaced people in Jubaland were 90,000 families, and now there are 70,000 families trapped who need urgent relief at this time.

President Ahmed Mohamed Islam also appealed to the international community and the humanitarian organizations to provide assistance to the flood victims and to help them rebuild their lives.

The floods in Somalia have been caused by the heavy rains that have been falling since October, which are part of the seasonal rains known as Deyr. The rains have also affected other parts of the country, such as Hiraan, Middle Shabelle, Lower Shabelle, and Banadir regions, where several rivers have overflowed and damaged crops, infrastructure, and livelihoods.
