Mogadishu, SONNA – On the sidelines of the World Conference on Population, Health and Development, which was held in Cairo from September 5 to 8 under the patronage of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, Somalia’s Minister of Labour and Social Affairs, Dr. Mohamed Elmi Ibrahim, held a fruitful meeting with Dr. Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, Minister of Health and Population.

The two ministers explored ways to strengthen cooperation in the field of family planning and reproductive health services, and to benefit from Egypt’s experiences in developing and implementing the national strategy for population and development. The strategy, which aims to address the challenges and opportunities of population dynamics, was launched during the opening session of the conference.

The ministers also agreed to expand the areas of cooperation in the health sector between their countries, in order to enhance the health system in the brotherly nations and meet the needs of their citizens. They reaffirmed the strong ties that have linked Somalia and Egypt for many decades, and expressed their mutual respect and support.
