President Hassan Receives General Muhoozi, Conveys Message on Joint Efforts in Combating Terrorism

Mogadishu, Somalia, (SONNA) The President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, Mr. Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, warmly welcomed General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, the Commander of the Special Forces of the President of Uganda, Mr. Yoweri Museveni, at the Presidential Palace in Mogadishu. The meeting between the two leaders focused on strengthening cooperation in the fight against terrorism, which poses a significant threat to the stability of the entire region.

During the meeting, General Muhoozi Kainerugaba conveyed a message from President Yoweri Museveni, highlighting the importance of joint efforts between Somalia and Uganda in combating the menace of terrorism. President Museveni’s message underscored the shared security concerns and the need for robust collaboration to address the common threat effectively.

President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud expressed his gratitude for the continuous support and cooperation from Uganda in the fight against terrorism. He commended Uganda’s commitment to Somalia’s security and stability and acknowledged the critical role played by the Ugandan forces in tThe African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS) in counterinsurgency operations against al-Shabaab.

The discussions between President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud and General Muhoozi Kainerugaba focused on various aspects of cooperation, including intelligence sharing, capacity building, and joint military operations. Both leaders emphasized the importance of sustained collaboration to tackle the terrorist threat that jeopardizes peace and stability in the region.

President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud provided an update on the progress of Somalia’s counter-terrorism operations, highlighting the ongoing efforts to neutralize al-Shabaab and other extremist groups. He outlined the areas where support from the Ugandan government would be beneficial, particularly in terms of intelligence sharing and joint operations to dismantle terrorist networks.

General Muhoozi Kainerugaba reiterated President Museveni’s message, reaffirming Uganda’s commitment to stand by Somalia in its fight against terrorism. He emphasized the need for continued cooperation, underscoring the shared responsibility of both nations in maintaining regional security and stability.

The meeting between President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud and General Muhoozi Kainerugaba serves as a testament to the strong partnership between Somalia and Uganda in addressing the common threat of terrorism. It highlights their mutual understanding and commitment to work together closely, pooling resources and expertise to effectively combat the extremist elements that pose a danger to the entire region.

As Somalia continues its efforts to establish lasting peace and stability, the support and cooperation from Uganda and other international partners remain vital in ensuring the success of the country’s counter-terrorism operations and the overall security of the region.
