Mogadishu(SONNA)-Somali National Army backed by local forces, Ma’awisley killed over 30 terrorist members of Al-Shabaab including senior militants after fighting between the two sides at an area near Run-Nirgod district in the middle Shabelle region early on Tuesday Morning, SONNA reported.
SNA Commander for the Infantry Division, Mohamed Tahlil Bihi told the Somali National News Agency SONNA that the forces recovered weapons during the operation, saying the terrorists could not even collect their dead bodies as they were defeated.
“Our forces took swift action against Al-Shabaab terrorists who were trying to carry out an attack. We killed over 30 Khawarij fighters including senior commanders and forced them to flee from their dead bodies. We are committed to destroying the terrorist network in this region and throughout the country”, Bihi told SONNA.
He added that the militants inflicted casualties on civilians, but did not identify the number so far.
The operation comes days before the Government plans to launch the second phase of the total war on the group fighters in the southwest and southern parts of the country.
