Dakar, (SONNA) – The Minister of Finance of the Federal Government of Somalia, Dr. Elmi Mohamud Nur had a fruitful meeting with the President of the African Development Bank (AfDB) in Dakar, Senegal, Mr. Akinwumi Adesina and senior members of the Bank.
Minister Elmi briefed the President of the Bank on the state of Somalia’s economy and the progress made in economic reform and expansion of the Bank’s projects in Somalia.
The Minister also reported on the status of the Somali Debt relief program which has made great progress for the Federal Government of Somalia and said that Somalia is about to be forgiven of all its debts in the near future, telling the bank that Somalia needs many projects when the debt is reliefed, such as increasing domestic revenue, climate change, job creation and the development of the General Financial Management system.
The President of the African Development Bank Dr. Akinwumi Adesina praised the Federal Government of Somalia for making great progress in the Debt Relief program and reforming the country’s economy and said that the Bank stands with Somalia to succeed in reforming and completing the Debt Relief Program which is nearing completion.
The Minister and the President discussed the development projects and programs supported by the Bank in Somalia, and he added that the Bank will support the Federal Government of Somalia in additional projects with Bank Grants for outside Somalia.
