Baidoa, (SONNA) — The Ministry of Information, Culture and Tourism of the Federal Government of Somalia, in collaboration with the Ministry of Information and Public Awareness of Southwest State, today launched a two-day training workshop in Baidoa focused on media ethics in covering Somalia’s elections.

The workshop, attended by 20 journalists representing various media outlets, aims to strengthen the role of the press in delivering fair, balanced, and impartial election coverage in line with professional journalism standards, the electoral law, and relevant regulations.

Abdirahman Ahmed Hussein, Director of Federal Member States Relations at the Federal Ministry of Information, thanked the Southwest State Ministry for coordinating the training and underscored its importance in enhancing media contributions to election reporting.

Opening the event, Omar Mustafa, Director General of Information and Public Awareness in Southwest State, urged participants from both public and private media to make the most of the sessions and apply the knowledge gained. He commended the strong cooperation between the federal and state ministries in improving media awareness.

The workshop is part of a broader initiative aimed at deepening journalists’ understanding of electoral processes and the vital role of the media, supported by the United Nations Transitional Mission in Somalia (UNTMIS) to promote professional, independent, and impartial reporting.
