Mogadishu, (SONNA) — The 1324th African Union Peace and Security Council (AUPSC) Ministerial Meeting convenes on the preservation of Somalia’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, unity and stability. Chaired by H.E. Thérèse Kayikwamba Wagner, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and AUPSC Chair for Jan 2026. Opening remarks by H.E. Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, African Union Chairperson, followed by statements from the Foreign Ministers of Somalia and Djibouti-IGAD Chair.
At today’s 1324th AUPSC Ministerial Meeting, the Council strongly condemns, in the strongest terms, the unilateral recognition of the so-called “Republic of Somaliland” by Israel and calls for its immediate revocation.
At its 1321st Ministerial Meeting, the PSC strongly condemned attacks by the M23, as well as violence by the ADF and FDLR, and denounced all foreign military support to armed groups. It called for the immediate withdrawal of all external forces and full implementation of UNSC Resolution 2773, extending the mandate of MONUSCO.
Council underscored the need for the expedited implementation of the DohaFramework and WashingtonAgreement and for the parties to these agreements to fulfill their commitments; Underlined the need for scaling up resource mobilization efforts to effectively address the deteriorating humanitarian situation in the eastern DRC, including supporting the Republic of Burundi which is hosting a large number of refugees from eastern DRC; Welcomed the political engagements between Burundi and Rwanda.
Council rejected any attempt to establish parallel administrations on Congolese territory, and underscored the absolute necessity of a political solution to achieve sustainable de-escalation in Eastern DRC Communique to be issued soon.
