Mogadishu, (SONNA) — The Prime Minister of the Federal Government of Somalia, H.E. Hamza Abdi Barre, has firmly stated that Somalia cannot revert to indirect elections, emphasizing that power must remain in the hands of the people.
Speaking at a dinner event held at Mogadishu’s City Hall in honor of the delegates who participated in the National Dialogue Conference, Prime Minister Xamsa underscored his government’s commitment to upholding democratic principles and supporting the recommendations put forward by Somali stakeholders during the consultative forum.
“The government of DanQaran is committed to encouraging proposals related to elections and recognizes the significant role our national stakeholders are playing in shaping a democratic process that reflects the will of the people,” the Prime Minister said.
He stressed the need for unity and solidarity to overcome the challenges facing the country — including insecurity, economic hardships, and political instability — and to secure meaningful progress for the nation.
“We must move toward a unified system that brings all Somalis together. By moving away from indirect governance, we can overcome disunity, conflict, and other obstacles that have long hindered our country,” he added.
Prime Minister Xamsa also expressed his gratitude to the delegates and prominent Somali figures who responded to the President’s call for dialogue, noting that their contributions led to key decisions concerning the future of the country and enriched the national conversation.
