Mogadishu(SONNA)-As we mark the International Day for Universal Access to Information
(IDUAI), under the theme ‘Mainstreaming Access to Information and Participation in the Public Sector’, we, the Federal Government of Somalia, reassert our firm commitment to the principles of transparency, accountability, and public participation in governance.
We acknowledge the vital role that access to information plays in empowering our citizens, promoting social equity, and fortifying democratic governance. In full accordance with the African Union (AU) Model Law on Access to Information and our Provisional Constitution, we are steadfast in our pursuit to enact legislation that not only secures but also simplifies the accessibility of information for every Somali.
This commitment is a testament to our dedication to fostering an inclusive society wherein every voice is acknowledged, and every citizen is engaged in the decision-making processes that influence their lives. By embedding access to information within our public sector operations, we enable our citizens to contribute meaningfully to our nation’s progress and ensure that our government remains attuned to the needs of its people.
Through comprehensive engagement with the media, civil society and the citizenry, the Federal Government is dedicated to promoting and maintaining the ideals of openness and inclusiveness as we advance towards a more informed and participatory Somalia.
