MOGADISHU, Somalia – The Speaker of the House of the People of the Federal Parliament of Somalia, H.E. Sheikh Adan Mohamed Nur (Madobe), presided over the 17th meeting of the Standing Committee today. The high-level session, convened at the Villa Hargeisa Leadership and Committees Headquarters, focused on streamlining the legislative priorities for the ongoing 7th parliamentary session.
In his opening remarks, the Speaker shared a comprehensive report with the committee members regarding the critical tasks and draft laws currently before the House. He placed a strong emphasis on the necessity of accelerating the processing of these legislative documents to ensure the Parliament effectively fulfills its constitutional mandate during this session.
During the proceedings, the Auditor of the House of the People, MP Mohamed Abdullahi Hassan (Nuuh), administered the oath of office to the Nominated Minister of Public Works, Reconstruction, and Housing, Mr. Ayub Ismail Yusuf. This formal swearing-in ceremony allows the new Minister to officially assume his duties within the executive branch.
The Standing Committee members subsequently heard detailed presentations from the chairpersons and representatives of various parliamentary sub-committees. These briefings provided updates on the status of draft laws currently under review, outlining the remaining procedural steps and the projected timelines for their tabling before the full plenary assembly for debate and ratification.
The meeting concluded with the committee officially setting the agenda and scheduling the sessions for the 13th week of the House of the People. This planning ensures a structured and efficient workflow for the legislative body in the coming days.
