Jakarta, (SONNA) — The Second Deputy Speaker of Somalia’s House of the People, Hon. Abdullahi Omar Abshirow, is attending preparatory meetings in Jakarta ahead of the 19th session of the Islamic Parliamentary Union (IPU), set to convene soon in the Indonesian capital.
Hon. Abshirow joined a special session of the Arab group within the IPU, where participants discussed key issues relevant to Arab member states and reviewed the main agenda of the upcoming summit.
In a separate meeting, the Deputy Speaker held bilateral talks with the Foreign Affairs Committee of Indonesia’s Parliament. The discussions focused on strengthening parliamentary relations between Somalia and Indonesia, promoting knowledge exchange, and providing training opportunities for staff of Somalia’s Federal Parliament to enhance their capacity and expertise.
The 19th IPU Conference will focus broadly on good governance and institution-building. Key topics include the rights of Muslim minorities, strategies for engaging youth, women, and civil society in inclusive democratic processes, and other priority areas for member states.
