MOGADISHU, Somalia – The Ministry of Planning, Investment, and Economic Development of the Federal Government of Somalia today launched a high-level consultative meeting of the National Development Council in Mogadishu. The gathering was presided over by Minister H.E. Mohamud Abdirahman Beenebeene and brought together Planning Ministers from the Federal Member States to align the nation’s strategic trajectory.
The primary objective of the summit was to accelerate the implementation of the National Transformation Plan (NTP 2025–2029). The extensive discussions focused on harmonizing development planning across all levels of government, strengthening cooperation between federal and regional institutions, and formulating a unified response to the persistent drought conditions affecting the country.
In his opening address, Minister Beenebeene emphasized the critical importance of establishing a cohesive national planning system. He argued that a unified framework is essential for guiding the country’s development agenda and ensuring the successful execution of the NTP, which aims to drive economic growth and institutional reform over the next five years.
During the session, the Council reviewed vital technical documents, including the Final Evaluation of the 9th National Development Plan (NDP-9 2020–2024). The Ministry’s various departments presented an overview of the transition to the new Transformation Plan, while representatives from the Federal Member States submitted progress reports detailing their specific regional opportunities, challenges, and priorities for the upcoming year.
Concluding the meeting, Minister Beenebeene reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to deepening the collaboration between the Federal Government and the Member States. He stated that this partnership is the foundation for delivering sustainable, inclusive development that benefits all Somali citizens.
