MOGADISHU (SONNA) – The Federal Ministry of Defense and the European Union (EU), with support from the bloc’s funding mechanisms, are actively engaged in the extensive reconstruction of Somali National Army (SNA) military camps and the enhancement of the army’s capabilities.
The State Minister of Defense, Omar Ali Abdi, and a high-level EU delegation today attended a ceremony marking the completion of the rehabilitation and renovation of the General Dhagabadan Training Camp.
The event featured prominent attendees, including the EU Ambassador to Somalia, Francesca Di Mauro, senior officers from the SNA, and representatives from the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS), which is often involved in project execution.
During the ceremony, the Ministry of Defense also officially received a consignment of military vehicles and equipment. These assets are specifically intended to bolster the training programs for the SNA, a critical step in professionalizing the armed forces.
The reconstruction and rehabilitation of government camps are part of a consistent effort aimed at upgrading the skills and capabilities of the national army. These programs are financed under the SNA Support Project 3 of the European Peace Facility (EPF), demonstrating the EU’s sustained commitment to Somalia’s security transition and capacity building.
