Hiiraan, (SONNA) — The National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA) of the Federal Republic of Somalia, in coordination with international partners, carried out a targeted night operation near Gayacad junction, close to the Mabaax area in the Hiiraan region, resulting in the killing of 15 al-Shabaab militants, including several field commanders. Five others sustained serious injuries.
The operation, conducted in three successive waves overnight, targeted a group of al-Shabaab fighters mobilized from Adan Yabal and Ceel Cali Ahmed in Middle Shabelle. The militants were reportedly en route to reinforce trapped al-Shabaab elements in parts of Hiiraan.
Despite the group’s attempt to hide in remote bushland, the intelligence-led operation successfully neutralized the threat. The Somali security forces confirmed that all three phases of the operation achieved their objectives. The hunt continues for the remaining militants who fled during the raids.
NISA reaffirmed its commitment to dismantling al-Shabaab’s operational networks and praised the ongoing support from international allies in bolstering national counterterrorism efforts.
