Mogadishu, SONNA – The Minister of Environment and Climate Change of the Federal Government of Somalia, Hon. Ambassador Khadija Mohamed Al-makhzoumi, has signed a key Funding Agreement for the Agricultural Climate Change Resilience Project. This initiative, known as ‘Climatic Resilience in Somalia,’ has been approved by the Green Climate Fund (GCC).

The agreement marks a critical milestone in the Somali government’s efforts to address the severe impacts of climate change, food shortages, and poverty that have plagued the nation. Minister Khadija expressed her gratitude to all those who contributed to reaching this pivotal moment.

“This project represents the beginning of our sustained efforts to find lasting solutions to the harsh conditions brought about by climate change,” stated Minister Khadija. She emphasized the importance of this initiative in enhancing the resilience of Somalia’s agricultural sector, which is vital for the nation’s food security and economic stability.

The Agricultural Climate Change Resilience Project aims to implement sustainable practices and technologies to mitigate the adverse effects of climate change on agriculture. It will focus on improving water management, soil conservation, and crop diversification to boost productivity and sustainability.

The signing of this agreement is a prove to Somalia’s commitment to environmental sustainability and its proactive approach to securing a better future for its people. With the support of the Green Climate Fund and continued collaboration with international partners, Somalia is poised to make significant strides in building resilience against climate change.
