Mogadishu, Somalia – A meeting between the Somali Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA) and the Somalia NGO Consortium has concluded, with both parties agreeing to a new framework for enhanced collaboration and unified humanitarian aid delivery. The meeting focused on streamlining efforts to effectively address the country’s ongoing humanitarian challenges.
SoDMA Commissioner Mohamud Moalim Abdulle highlighted the importance of the meeting for advancing the National Disaster Management Policy. He emphasized that a coordinated approach is essential for minimizing challenges related to aid delivery and ensuring that assistance reaches those most in need.
To achieve this, the two parties agreed on several key measures:
- Development of a National Policy: The organizations will work together to further develop the National Disaster Management Policy, creating a clearer strategy for aid coordination.
- Centralized Information Hub: A central platform will be established to collect and consolidate information on all aid activities. This will be accompanied by a mapping of the operational areas of various NGOs to prevent duplication of efforts and identify gaps in coverage.
- Regular High-Level Meetings: SoDMA and the leaders of the NGOs will hold regular meetings to maintain a strong partnership, ensuring continuous communication and cooperation in their humanitarian work.
This agreement marks a significant step forward in Somalia’s efforts to create a more organized and effective system for responding to disasters and humanitarian crises. The focus on a unified strategy is expected to improve the impact of aid and strengthen the country’s overall resilience.
