Somalia’s Defense Minister Announces Major Victory: 150 Khawarij Eliminated in 48 Hours

Mogadishu, SONNA – Somalia’s Minister of Defense, Abdulqadir Mohamed Nur, announced Today that over 150 Khawarij militants, including senior leaders, were killed in a series of targeted airstrikes conducted over the past 48 hours.

Speaking to national media, Minister Abdulqadir detailed the success of the operations, which focused on key areas where the Khawarij had been hiding. The targeted regions included Ceel Baad Ahmed, Laba Garas, Jambaluul, Ceel Garas, and Damasha Shabellow. The minister confirmed that all remnants of the Khawarij in these areas were successfully eliminated.

“We have carried out a number of airstrikes on the Khawarij in the past 48 hours in places where the enemy was hiding. More than 150 Khawarij lost their lives in the operation,” Minister Abdulqadir stated. He emphasized that the operations have severely crippled the extremist group’s capabilities in the region.

The minister also issued a stern warning to the Somali public, urging them to avoid areas where the Khawarij are being targeted. “We are warning the people again, stay away from the enemy’s places, they have been targeted,” he said, highlighting the importance of civilian safety during ongoing military operations.

The recent success is part of a broader campaign by the Somali National Army, supported by local liberation forces, to eradicate extremist groups from the country. Over the past two days, a combination of air and ground operations has resulted in a major defeat for the Khawarij, marking a significant step forward in Somalia’s fight against terrorism.

This latest victory shows the growing effectiveness of Somalia’s military forces and their ability to conduct precise and impactful operations against extremist elements. The elimination of senior Khawarij leaders is expected to disrupt the group’s operations and weaken its organizational structure.

As the Somali National Army continues its efforts to restore peace and security, the government remains committed to protecting civilians and ensuring the safety of all citizens. The international community has praised Somalia’s progress in combating extremism, with many nations offering support to bolster the country’s security infrastructure.
