Mahé, (SONNA) — The Auditor General of the Federal Republic of Somalia, Mr. Ahmed Issa Gutale, participated in the 21st Governing Board Meeting of the African Organization of English-speaking Supreme Audit Institutions (AFROSAI-E), held in Mahé, Seychelles, from May 19–23, 2025.
Hosted by the Office of the Auditor General of Seychelles, the high-level summit focused on:
- Reviewing the 2020–2024 Strategic Plan;
- Launching the new 2025–2029 Strategic Plan aimed at strengthening audit impact, institutional independence, and regional cooperation;
- Supporting implementation of the African Professionalisation Initiative (API) to address skills shortages in Supreme Audit Institutions (SAIs);
- Enhancing collaboration between SAIs and anti-corruption agencies to improve investigations and information sharing.
The event also marked the 20th anniversary of AFROSAI-E, prompting a renewed call for Supreme Audit Institutions to serve as pillars of transparency, accountability, and sustainable development across the continent.
Somalia’s consistent participation in AFROSAI-E events reflects the growing role of its Office of the Auditor General in promoting financial accountability and good governance in Africa.
