Mogadishu (SONNA): The Federal Government of Somalia is reinforcing its strategic partnership with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) following a high-level meeting in Mogadishu.
The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Hamza Haadow, received the UN Assistant Secretary-General and Director of the Crisis Bureau at UNDP, Ms. Shoko Noda, during her week-long visit to the capital.
The discussions focused on enhancing cooperation between the Ministry and UNDP in alignment with Somalia’s national priorities, including development, election preparedness, and humanitarian response.
The UN leadership commended Somalia’s growing role at the United Nations Security Council and its recent accession to the East African Community (EAC), noting these as significant milestones in the country’s international engagement.
Both sides also underscored the urgent need to address internal displacement and ongoing drought conditions, agreeing to accelerate government-led joint efforts aimed at supporting vulnerable communities and strengthening resilience across the country.
