Somalia Reaffirms Commitment to Women's Empowerment at Islamabad Conference

ISLAMABAD(SONNA) – Somalia's Minister of Family and Human Rights Development, Khadija Mohamed Al-Makhzoumi, addressed the 9th Women's Affairs Conference in Islamabad, reaffirming the Federal Government's commitment to advancing women's empowerment, human rights, and inclusive development.
The minister thanked the Government and people of Pakistan for hosting the conference and emphasized the importance of stronger cooperation among Islamic countries and the international community to promote women's rights and build more inclusive societies.
She highlighted Somalia's progress in increasing women's participation in decision-making, advancing gender equality, and implementing policies that strengthen social justice and protect fundamental rights. Al-Makhzoumi also described the establishment and operationalization of the Independent National Human Rights Commission as a landmark step in reinforcing accountability, the rule of law, and human rights institutions.
She stressed that empowering women is essential to peacebuilding, state-building, economic growth, and sustainable development, reaffirming Somalia's commitment to expanding women's participation in political, economic, and leadership roles while strengthening regional and international cooperation on women's rights and human rights.
