Somali National Army, International Partners kill over 40 Al-Shabaab militants in Hiiraan region

Mogadishu(SONNA)-The Somali National Armed Forces, with the support of international partners, carried out airstrikes last night in the village of Goobo, 10 km north of Mahaas District in Hiiraan Region, where remnants of Al-Shabaab militants had regrouped after being defeated by the Somali National Army in Sullaay and Waab-weyn on Monday afternoon.
The airstrikes neutralised 42 Al-Shabaab terrorists and injured 12 others. A military vehicle, positions and defensive fortifications established by Al-Shabaab in the area were also destroyed.
The ongoing operations have dealt a significant blow to Al-Shabaab, degrading the group’s ability to organise and operate. In recent months, Al-Shabaab has suffered heavy losses at the hands of the Somali National Armed Forces and international partners, with hundreds of militants and several leaders neutralised.
The Ministry of Defence commends the courage and sacrifice of the Somali National Armed Forces and the local Ma'wisley forces, who jointly defeated the Al-Shabaab militants. The Ministry also expresses its appreciation to Somalia's international partners for their support in combating and eliminating terrorism.
The Ministry of Defence and the Command of the Somali National Armed Forces will continue operations targeting Al-Shabaab leaders and militants until the threat they pose to the Somali people is eliminated.
