Addis Ababa, (SONNA) – A regional summit focused on finding durable solutions for displaced populations and highlighting the role of cities in the IGAD region has concluded in Addis Ababa.
The summit, organized by the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD), brought together city officials from IGAD member states, along with representatives from international organizations including IOM, UN-Habitat, UNHCR, the World Bank, and Sida.
Mogadishu was officially represented by Mr. Isma’il Ali Sheikh Nur, Director General of the Office of the Mayor of Banadir Region, who delivered a comprehensive briefing on the situation of internally displaced persons (IDPs) in the Somali capital. He outlined the major challenges facing the city and shared Mogadishu’s strategic approach to delivering long-term, sustainable solutions for displaced communities.
Participants exchanged experiences from across IGAD cities and agreed to strengthen collaboration through regular forums. The initiative aims to enhance joint efforts toward community resilience and self-reliance in the face of regional displacement challenges.
