Mogadishu, SONNA– The Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs of the Federal Government of Somalia and the National Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA) held a crucial meeting to discuss improving coordination between relief agencies and government institutions in humanitarian operations. Chaired by Deputy Minister of Labor and Social Affairs Aamino Hussein Ali and SoDMA Commissioner Mahmoud Moalim Abdulle, the meeting brought together regional ministers, UN representatives including the Deputy Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General for Somalia, and heads of UN OCHA and WFP Somalia.

Discussions focused on enhancing collaboration mechanisms, particularly for drought response, and ensuring more effective delivery of humanitarian aid to vulnerable communities. Participants emphasized the need for regular coordination meetings and stronger partnerships between international agencies and Somali authorities. A key outcome was the agreement to better utilize domestic resources while engaging Somalia’s business community and diaspora in relief efforts. The meeting concluded with a shared commitment to establish more structured working methods between all stakeholders involved in Somalia’s humanitarian response.

This high-level coordination effort comes as Somalia continues to face complex humanitarian challenges, requiring improved synergy between government institutions and international partners to effectively address the needs of affected populations. The Federal Government reaffirmed its leadership role in overseeing relief operations while recognizing the importance of collaboration with regional states and international organizations to strengthen Somalia’s disaster response capabilities. Regular follow-up meetings are planned to monitor progress and maintain momentum in implementing the agreed coordination framework.
