MOGADISHU (SONNA) – The joint committee for the selection and election of Somalia’s representatives to the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) has officially finalized the registration of candidates. The committee, led by its chairman, Member of Parliament Mohamed Abdullahi Hassan (Nuh), has completed the process of preparing the candidates who will participate in the election for the nine seats Somalia holds in the regional parliament.
On October 15, 2025, the committee officially concluded the registration and certification of the candidates. The election for Somalia’s representatives to the East African Legislative Assembly is now scheduled to take place on October 16.
This step is a key part of Somalia’s integration into the East African Community (EAC), which the country formally joined on November 24, 2023. The new representatives will play a vital role in advancing Somalia’s political, economic, and and social agenda within the regional bloc.
