Mogadishu, (SONNA) — The Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Federal Government of Somalia, H.E. Abdisalam Abdi Ali held high-level talks at the ministry headquarters with China’s Special Envoy to the Horn of Africa, Hu Changchun, focusing on deepening bilateral relations.
The discussions centered on the strategic importance of Somalia–China ties, with both sides engaging in in-depth deliberations on enhancing cooperation across key sectors.
China’s envoy reaffirmed Beijing’s firm support for Somalia’s sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity, while also highlighting the longstanding historical ties between the two countries. He underscored Somalia’s geostrategic importance as a vital corridor for global trade and connectivity.
The Somali government reiterated its commitment to strengthening bilateral relations and expanding cooperation in priority areas.
China expressed readiness to work closely with Somalia to advance shared interests, support Somali-led initiatives, and strengthen cooperation on peace and security, particularly within international frameworks.
Both sides also discussed expanding collaboration in fisheries and the blue economy, recognizing their importance for sustainable economic growth and the effective utilization of Somalia’s vast maritime resources.
