Somalia Advocates for Global Stability and Multilateralism at 4th EU Indo-Pacific Ministerial Forum in Brussels

BRUSSELS, Belgium – The Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Federal Republic of Somalia, H.E. Abdisalam Abdi Ali, joined high-level delegations from across the globe in Brussels today, Friday, for the 4th European Union Indo-Pacific Ministerial Forum. The gathering served as a critical platform for addressing pressing global security challenges and fostering deeper strategic cooperation between the European Union and the nations bordering the Indian and Pacific Oceans.

The high-profile forum convened representatives from more than 60 countries against a backdrop of increasing geopolitical complexity. Delegates engaged in robust discussions concerning rising political tensions, emerging non-traditional security threats, and the profound impact of climate change on the international order. The strategic dialogue aimed to reinforce the partnership between the two regions, focusing on shared prosperity and the maintenance of a rules-based international order.

During his address to the assembly, Minister Abdisalam Abdi Ali delivered a compelling message on the necessity of unity in a fragmented world. He articulated Somalia’s firm support for multilateral cooperation and the peaceful resolution of disputes, emphasizing that strengthening international institutions remains the most viable path toward sustainable global governance. The Minister highlighted that dialogue and regional stability are not merely diplomatic ideals but are essential prerequisites for equitable development and effective crisis management.

Minister Abdisalam addressed the significant political uncertainties currently facing the international community. He noted that as great power competition intensifies, global supply chains are facing unprecedented pressures, and the world’s oceans are increasingly becoming arenas of contestation. He argued that these challenges—ranging from maritime security to economic resilience—require a coordinated and collaborative response rather than isolationism.

The Minister’s participation in the forum signifies Somalia’s active engagement on the international stage, positioning the nation as a proactive partner in discussions surrounding the security and stability of the strategic trade routes linking the Horn of Africa to the broader Indo-Pacific region.
