Mogadishu (SONNA): The upper house of the Federal Government of Somalia has today approved the Agricultural Services Regulatory and Inspection Agency Bill by a majority vote. This new legislation also encompasses the Law on the Control of Agricultural Chemicals, aiming to ensure the safe use and management of agricultural inputs.
The Minister of Agriculture and Irrigation, Mohamed Abdi Hayir Maareye, expressed his gratitude to the members of the upper house for their support and approval of the bill. He emphasized the importance of this legislation in enhancing the regulation and inspection of agricultural services across the country, ensuring better quality and safety standards for the sector.
“This approval marks a critical step towards improving our agricultural sector. The new regulations will help protect our farmers, consumers, and the environment from the risks associated with the improper use of agricultural chemicals,” said Minister Maareye.
The bill’s approval is expected to pave the way for the establishment of the Agricultural Services Regulatory and Inspection Agency, which will oversee the implementation of the new regulations. This agency will be responsible for conducting inspections, ensuring compliance with safety standards, and providing guidance to farmers on best practices for the use of agricultural chemicals.
