Mogadishu(SONNA)-President of the Federal Government of Somalia, H.E. Hassan Sheikh Mohamud on Tuesday officially signed into law the establishment of the Independent National Human Rights Commission, following the approval of both houses of the Federal Parliament.
President Mohamud said the formation of the commission reflects Somalia’s firm commitment to protecting the rights and dignity of its citizens. He commended the close cooperation between Parliament and the Federal Government, noting that their joint efforts were essential in ensuring the commission’s legal soundness and alignment with constitutional and religious principles.
The President also praised the Ministry of Family and Human Rights for leading the legal and technical processes that made it possible to establish a commission capable of fulfilling its national responsibilities.
President Mohamud prayed for the commission members’ success as they begin their work and reminded them of the critical duties ahead—safeguarding human rights and strengthening a system of governance grounded in justice, accountability, and transparency.
The presidential endorsement coincided with Somalia’s commemoration of Human Rights Day, marking a significant step for the nation as it continues efforts to advance human rights protection and institutional reform.
