Mogadishu(SONNA)-President of the Federal Government of Somalia, H.E Hassan Sheikh Mohamud and Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre on Saturday convened an emergency meeting with Somalia’s security agencies following the terrorist attack at Liido Beach View Hotel in Mogadishu’s Abdiaziz district, which resulted in civilian casualties.
During the meeting, security officials presented a detailed report on the attack and discussed plans to enhance the capital’s security. President Mohamud raised questions to the officials on the attack’s circumstances, measures to protect civilians, and support for those affected.
President Mohamud expressed his condolences to the families of the victims and wished a swift recovery to the injured. He condemned the attack, saying, “The attack by the terrorists on Liido coast shows the cruelty of Khawaarij and their aim to destroy Somali civilians. The government is determined to eliminate this bloody group.”
The president emphasized the importance of civilian support in the fight against terrorism, urging the public to collaborate with security forces. “Oh Somali citizens, brothers and sisters, the terrorists of Khawaarij don’t like the civilians and the government. We are all enemies with their blood. Unite for their elimination, support the national army, and report those who are hiding among you”, he said.
President Mohamud highlighted the need for increased vigilance against terrorist attacks and called for unity and cooperation to eradicate the Khawaarij. The government remains committed to ensuring the safety and security of all Somali citizens.
The deadly terrorist attack left at least 32 people and 63 others injured mostly civilians according to the Police.
