Mogadishu, (SONNA) — The House of the People of the Federal Parliament of Somalia held its 16th session of the sixth sitting today at its headquarters in Mogadishu, chaired by Speaker Sheikh Adan Mohamed Nur (Madobe).
During the session, MP Abdulkadir Barako, a member of the Human Rights Committee, presented the third reading of the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) Bill. He shared the committee’s final report, which incorporated feedback and debate from the second reading.
Following the presentation, members of parliament voted on the IDP Bill, with 136 voting in favor, 4 against, and none abstaining, as announced by Speaker Madobe.
The House also passed the Civil Registration and Vital Statistics (CRVS) Bill with 136 votes in favor, one against, and five abstentions.
In closing remarks, Speaker Madobe addressed a proposal from several MPs calling for financial support from Parliament to the Somali National Army and allied local forces engaged in operations against Al-Shabaab. The Speaker confirmed that the leadership of the House will appoint a special committee to explore and act on the proposal.
