MOGADISHU, SOMALIA (SONNA) — The Somali National Army (SNA), operating in close coordination with international security partners, executed a highly synchronized precision airstrike in the Ugunji sector of the Lower Shabelle region. The counter-terrorism operation targeted a dense concentration of Al-Shabaab militants who were actively regrouping to mount offensive operations against civilian populations and state infrastructure.
The defense ministry confirmed that intelligence surveillance teams tracked the moving insurgent cell to a staging base in Ugunji, roughly 70 kilometers southwest of the capital. The tactical strike dismantled the facility, neutralizing six confirmed Al-Shabaab combatants and obliterating a substantial cache of tactical weaponry, communications gear, and logistics equipment. No civilian casualties or damage to surrounding non-combatant property were recorded during the kinetic engagement.
The Ministry of Defence and the High Command of the SNA reasserted their long-term operational objective to intensify offensive pressure against the remaining pockets of extremist networks. Military planners indicated that the Ugunji disruption is part of a wider, multi-theater campaign to break up insurgent assembly points before they can launch attacks into major economic corridors. The federal administration reiterated its stance to pursue and eliminate terrorist remnants across the region, securing vital transport links and rural communities from the threat of violent extremism.
