Mogadishu, SONNA – The Minister of Interior, Federal Affairs, and Reconciliation of the Federal Republic of Somalia, Ali Yusuf Ali (Xoosh), has concluded a four-day awareness meeting on the One Person, One Vote electoral system in the capital, Mogadishu. The event, organized by the Ministry, brought together a diverse group of stakeholders, including representatives from the Banadir Region, traditional elders, women, youth, scholars, and community leaders, to discuss the importance of democratic elections and the restoration of constitutional rights.

In his closing remarks, Minister Ali Xoosh emphasized the legality and public support for the One Person, One Vote electoral system, stating that it is not only a constitutional right but also a collective responsibility to ensure its implementation.

“The One Person, One Vote election is legal, and there is a public will to see it realized,” said Minister Ali Xoosh. “It is our responsibility to work together to make this a reality and restore the constitutional rights of the Somali people.”

The Minister elaborated on the benefits of democratization and the significance of transitioning to a One Person, One Vote electoral system. He highlighted that this system is long overdue and represents a critical step toward strengthening Somalia’s democratic institutions, ensuring transparency, and empowering citizens to choose their leaders.

Minister Ali Xoosh also took the opportunity to commend the Somali National Army for their relentless efforts in combating Khawarij, particularly during the holy month of Ramadan. He called on all Somalis to stand in solidarity with the armed forces as they continue to protect the nation and secure its future.

The four-day awareness meeting in Mogadishu is part of the Ministry’s broader efforts to promote civic education and prepare the public for the upcoming electoral process. Participants expressed strong support for the One Person, One Vote system, recognizing it as a cornerstone of democracy and good governance.
