Mogadishu (SONNA): Members of both Houses of the Federal Parliament of Somalia held a joint session today at the People’s House as part of the 7th session, fifth meeting. The sitting was chaired by the Second Deputy Speaker of the House of the People, Abdullahi Omar Abshirow, alongside the Second Deputy Speaker of the Upper House, Abdullahi Hirsi Timacadde.
The main agenda was the second reading of the 2024 fiscal year budget execution report. The report was presented to lawmakers by the Chairperson of the Budget, Finance, Planning, International Cooperation, and Government Oversight Committee of the House of the People, MP Abdi Ibrahim Warsame (Qowdhan).
Following the presentation, lawmakers from both Houses shared their views regarding the budget execution report, while the Minister of Finance, Bihi Iiman Cige—who attended the session—responded to questions and provided further clarifications.
In closing, the Second Deputy Speaker of the House of the People, Abdullahi Omar Abshirow, instructed the finance committees of both Houses to incorporate the MPs’ comments and recommendations and prepare the third reading, after which the report will be returned to the chambers for final approval.
