Geneva, (SONNA) — A delegation from the National Independent Human Rights Commission of Somalia, led by Chairperson Dr. Maryam Qasim Ahmed, is participating in an international conference of global human rights institutions that opened today at the United Nations headquarters in Geneva.
The three-day conference has brought together human rights bodies from around the world to discuss pressing global challenges. Accompanying the Chairperson are Deputy Chair Mohamed Harun Mahmoud and Commissioner Farhan Mohamed Jimale.
Discussions on the opening day focused on the growing challenges of irregular migration and its impact on countries worldwide, particularly across the African continent.
During the conference, the Somali delegation is expected to hold bilateral meetings with various UN agencies, as well as regional and continental organizations, including those in the Horn of Africa, to strengthen cooperation on human rights and migration-related issues.
