Mogadishu, Somalia – The Somali government has responded to claims by two members of parliament (MPs) who allege they were harassed in Nairobi, Kenya.

The MPs reportedly took to social media to express concerns about their safety, suggesting a link to the Somali government. The Federal Government of Somalia has strongly denied any involvement.

In a statement released by the Somali National News Agency (SONNA), the government expressed regret over the situation but emphasized its commitment to freedom of speech and the rights of Somali citizens.

The statement further highlights the strong relationship between Somalia and Kenya, built on principles of good neighborliness and mutual respect. It advises the affected MPs to work with Kenyan security agencies to determine the cause of the incident.

Kenyan authorities are responsible for ensuring the safety of all individuals within their borders, including visitors and guests. The Somali government encourages the MPs to pursue this course of action to clarify the events surrounding the alleged harassment.
