Somali Disaster Management Agency Delegation Arrives in Kuwait for High-Level Talks

KUWAIT CITY, Kuwait – A high-level delegation led by Mohamud Moalim Abdulle, Commissioner of the Somali Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA), arrived in Kuwait City on Friday evening to strengthen bilateral cooperation in disaster management and humanitarian aid. The delegation was warmly received by Brigadier General Mohammed AlQahtani, Vice President of the Kuwait General Fire Force and the Disaster Management Authority, marking the beginning of a series of strategic discussions aimed at addressing Somalia’s ongoing humanitarian crisis.

The visit comes at a critical time for Somalia, which is grappling with one of its worst droughts in decades. The failure of the recent rainy season has exacerbated food shortages, leaving millions at risk of starvation. SoDMA has been actively seeking international partnerships to mitigate the crisis, particularly after the United States announced a reduction in its aid assistance worldwide.

This trip to Kuwait follows Commissioner Abdulle’s recent visit to Russia, where he secured pledges of support from the Russian government for Somalia’s humanitarian programs. The back-to-back diplomatic efforts shows SoDMA’s commitment to diversifying its international partnerships and securing much-needed aid for its people.

During their stay in Kuwait, Commissioner Abdulle and his delegation are scheduled to hold talks with key stakeholders, including the Kuwait Red Crescent Society (KRCS) and the Kuwait Institute for Scientific Research (KISR). These discussions are expected to focus on enhancing collaboration in disaster preparedness, humanitarian relief, and long-term resilience-building initiatives.

“We are grateful for the warm reception and look forward to productive engagements with our Kuwaiti counterparts,” said Commissioner Abdulle. “Kuwait has a strong track record in humanitarian efforts, and we believe this partnership will significantly contribute to alleviating the suffering of the Somali people.”

The visit to Kuwait is part of SoDMA’s broader strategy to expand its international alliances. The recent trip to Russia, where the Russian government pledged support for Somalia’s humanitarian programs, highlights the agency’s proactive approach to addressing the crisis. These efforts are crucial as Somalia faces a dire situation, with millions in need of urgent assistance.

Kuwait, known for its proactive role in global humanitarian efforts, has previously supported Somalia through various initiatives, including food aid and development projects. The upcoming talks are expected to further solidify the relationship between the two nations, with a focus on immediate relief and long-term recovery.

The Somali delegation’s visit to Kuwait highlights the growing importance of international collaboration in tackling global humanitarian crises. As Somalia continues to face severe challenges, the support of partners like Kuwait and Russia will be crucial in ensuring the survival and recovery of its vulnerable populations.

The outcomes of these talks are anticipated to pave the way for increased aid, technical assistance, and joint initiatives that will not only address the immediate crisis but also strengthen Somalia’s capacity to manage future disasters.
