Mogadishu, Somalia – June 12, 2025 – The Cabinet of Ministers of the Federal Republic of Somalia convened its weekly meeting today, making a decision to approve the Undersea Communications Cables Regulation. This significant move is aimed at enhancing and safeguarding the security of the nation’s vital communications infrastructure, a crucial step in Somalia’s digital advancement and national security framework.

Chaired by the Acting Prime Minister and Deputy Prime Minister, Mr. Saleh Ahmed Jama, the high-level council meeting addressed a range of pressing national issues. The approval of the communications cables regulation represents a proactive approach by the Somali government to protect its digital lifeline, ensuring the stability and resilience of internet connectivity and data flow across the country. This regulation is expected to establish clear guidelines for the protection, maintenance, and strategic development of these critical underwater assets, which are indispensable for modern governance, commerce, and social connectivity.

Beyond the strategic communications decision, the Cabinet also received detailed reports on key national preparations. Discussions included the readiness for the upcoming independence Week celebrations, a period of national observance and reflection. Furthermore, comprehensive reports were presented regarding the arrangements for the National Examination for the 2025 academic year. This crucial examination is set to officially commence on Saturday across various regions of the country, a vital event for thousands of Somali students and a barometer of the nation’s educational progress.

Security remained a paramount focus during the Cabinet’s deliberations. Ministers of Internal Security and Defense provided updates on the ongoing efforts to bolster national security and promote stabilization in liberated areas. They detailed the accelerated pace of operations designed to rid the country entirely of Khawarij groups. The Council conveyed its profound appreciation and commendation for the valor and sacrifices of the National Army and the local communities who are actively engaged in defending the nation and reclaiming territory. This collective resolve continues to be a cornerstone of Somalia’s journey towards lasting peace and security.

The outcomes of today’s Cabinet meeting reflect the Somali government’s  commitment to strengthening national infrastructure, fostering educational advancement, and ensuring the complete liberation and stabilization of the country for all its citizens.
