Las-Anod, Somalia – The Commissioner of the Somali Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA), Mr. Mahmud Moallin Abdulle, accompanied by the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management of the Northeast State, Mr. Abdirisak Hindi, today laid the foundation stone for the Emergency Relief Center and Food Storage Warehouse in the Northeast Federal State. This key project, which is being constructed with funding and support from the People’s Republic of China, represents a significant step forward in bolstering Somalia’s national capacity to respond to disasters.

The groundbreaking ceremony, which highlighted the strengthening collaboration between national and regional authorities, was attended by key officials from the Northeast State, including the Ministers of Religion and Endowment, and Energy and Water, as well as representatives from the contracting company.

The new center is designed to serve as a vital hub for coordinating rapid emergency relief operations. It will also provide secure storage for essential food supplies and humanitarian aid, ensuring that critical assistance can be quickly deployed to communities across the Northeast Federal State, particularly those most vulnerable to humanitarian crises.

In his address, Minister Abdirisak Hindi praised SoDMA for its instrumental role in initiating the project. He emphasized that the center will make a profound difference to the local population by mitigating the impact of disasters.

SoDMA commissioner Mohamud Moalim Abdulle emphasized the project’s importance in strengthening the nation’s overall disaster response capabilities. “It is essential that we enhance our regional relief capabilities to ensure we can reach all those in need,” he stated, urging the construction company to complete the project with a sense of urgency.

This initiative is part of a series of development projects previously launched by the Prime Minister in Las-Anod. The completion of the center is expected to play a crucial role in enhancing food security and enabling a more efficient and effective humanitarian response throughout the region.
