Mogadishu, (SONNA) – The Somali Disaster Management Agency has issued a warning regarding the upcoming spring rains in the country. The agency has expressed concerns that these rains may lead to floods and landslides, potentially affecting up to 800,000 individuals.
In response to this, the agency has initiated measures to prevent such a disaster. The Director of National Emergency Operations Centre (NEOC), Hassan Isse, disclosed that they have made preparations to rescue people in case of floods and landslides by setting up 51 boats.
Furthermore, the agency has provided sacks to States in the Southwest, Hirshabelle, and Jubbaland to fortify the river and drainage areas where needed.
Commissioner Mahamud Moallim has urged the public to closely follow the agency’s instructions, vacate the drainage areas, and remain vigilant to ensure their safety.
