Hirshabelle, SONNA – The Somali Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA) has launched a significant humanitarian relief effort to assist vulnerable communities displaced by ongoing counter-terrorism operations in the Hirshabelle region. The aid, which includes essential supplies such as food, medicine, clothing, and household items, was transported to the affected areas of Nuur-dugle and Aqab-duco in 11 trucks.
The initiative aims to alleviate the suffering of displaced families who have been forced to flee their homes due to the conflict. Sahra Ali Yusuf, the director of SoDMA’s relief department, emphasized that the food supplies are specifically intended to support the displaced population, many of whom are facing severe food insecurity.
In addition to food and other essentials, Dr. Abdullahi Fanah, handed over a donation of medicine to Yasin Jilioow, a local elder actively involved in efforts to liberate the area from enemy invaders. The medicine is expected to provide critical support to displaced families, particularly mothers and children who are among the most vulnerable.
Upon receiving the donation, Elder Yasin Jilioow expressed gratitude for the assistance, noting that it would significantly benefit the displaced community. “This donation will help those in dire need, especially mothers and children who are suffering the most,” he said.
The delivery of aid emphasizes the Somali government’s commitment to addressing the humanitarian crisis caused by conflict and natural disasters. By employing effective and efficient methods, SoDMA and its partners aim to mitigate the impact of such crises on the population and ensure that essential support reaches those who need it most.
This relief effort highlights the ongoing collaboration between government agencies, local leaders, and humanitarian organizations to provide timely assistance to communities affected by instability and disaster. As the situation in Hirshabelle remains fluid, the need for continued support and solidarity remains critical.
