Slovenia Reaffirms “Full Support” for Somalia’s Unity at UNSC, Urges Non-Interference

NEW YORK, United Nations – The Republic of Slovenia has formally reaffirmed its unwavering support for the unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity of the Federal Republic of Somalia. Speaking at the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) on Tuesday, the Slovenian delegation delivered a clear message of solidarity with Mogadishu, emphasizing that the political future of the nation lies solely in the hands of its citizens.

As the current holder of the Security Council Presidency for December, Slovenia’s intervention carries significant diplomatic weight. Addressing the urgent open briefing regarding the situation in the Horn of Africa, the delegation stressed that the principles of the UN Charter must be upheld. They made it clear that internal matters concerning the governance and territorial configuration of the state “must be left to the Somali people to resolve” through domestic dialogue and constitutional processes, rather than through external imposition.

This stance aligns Slovenia with the broader international consensus that has emerged in New York this week. By insisting that internal disputes remain free from foreign interference, Ljubljana effectively rejected unilateral attempts by external actors to influence Somalia’s domestic affairs. The statement reinforces the legal position that Somalia’s borders are inviolable and that any solution to regional differences must be homegrown and consensual.

The intervention adds another influential European voice to the chorus of support for the Federal Government of Somalia. It highlights the international community’s commitment to preserving the stability of the Horn of Africa by respecting the sovereignty of established states and discouraging actions that could lead to fragmentation.
