Public Works Minister Condemns Israel’s Recognition of Somaliland, Terms it a “Violation of Sovereignty”

MOGADISHU, Somalia – The Minister of Public Works, Reconstruction and Housing of the Federal Government of Somalia, H.E. MP Ayuub Ismail Yusuf, has issued a fierce condemnation of the Israeli administration’s decision to recognize the Somaliland region. Speaking with a tone of profound indignation, the Minister, who hails from the northern regions himself, characterized the move as a direct assault on the nation’s independence and a flagrant breach of international legal norms.

In a strongly worded address, Minister Ayuub asserted that the recognition is not merely a diplomatic dispute but a calculated violation of the sovereignty of the Federal Republic. He argued that Israel’s actions contravene the established laws that govern the behavior of nations, specifically the principles of non-interference and respect for the territorial integrity of sovereign states. By engaging with a regional administration as if it were an independent entity, the Minister stated that Israel has crossed a diplomatic red line and disregarded the Charter of the United Nations.

The condemnation carries particular significance given the Minister’s background. As a prominent political figure hailing from the very region in question, his rejection of the move serves as a powerful declaration of the enduring belief in national unity held by many in the north. His remarks challenge the narrative of separation, reinforcing the Federal Government’s position that the northern regions remain an integral and inseparable part of the Somali Republic, and that their future cannot be dictated by external actors.

Minister Ayuub’s statements align perfectly with the broader diplomatic offensive launched by the Federal Government. His comments reinforce the message delivered by the Presidency and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, presenting a united front against what Mogadishu views as an opportunistic attempt to fragment the country. The Minister called upon the Somali public to remain vigilant and united in the face of these external provocations, emphasizing that the protection of Somali soil is a collective responsibility that transcends regional affiliations.
