Mogadishu (SONNA) — A gala dinner marking the 66th anniversary of the Somali National Army is underway tonight in the capital, Mogadishu.
The Prime Minister of the Federal Government of Somalia, H.E. Hamza Abdi Barre, joined by senior government officials, the Commander of the Somali National Army, Brig. Gen. Ibrahim Mohamed Mahmoud, along with other security chiefs, military court leaders, officers, and distinguished guests, attended the event honoring the army’s founding anniversary.
Speakers at the ceremony commended the vital role of the national army in defending the country, maintaining security, and combating Al-Shabaab militants, while emphasizing the need to further strengthen the capacity and professionalism of the forces.
Addressing the gathering, SNA Commander Ibrahim Mohamed Mahmoud stated that the armed forces have achieved significant victories against Al-Shabaab militants over the past year. He also paid tribute to fallen soldiers and highlighted the importance placed by the command on supporting their families, particularly orphans.
