Mogadishu, (SONNA) – The President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, H.E. Hassan Sheikh Mohamud held a high-level meeting at the Presidential Palace with representatives from various segments of Somali civil society. The meeting marks the beginning of broad consultations in preparation for the National Consultative Forum scheduled for June 15, 2025.
President Hassan Sheikh emphasized the essential role of civil society in shaping Somalia’s future, describing their participation as central to the country’s democratization and state-building efforts.
“If we want Somalia to move forward, we must break free from the stagnation of the past. Democratization is a fundamental pillar of good governance, and the Somali people must be given a full and meaningful role in determining their national destiny,” said the President.
He reaffirmed his commitment to continuing inclusive consultations with diverse community groups to ensure effective preparation for the upcoming forum, which he described as a vital platform rooted in the public interest and aimed at fostering national consensus.
The ongoing series of consultative meetings will focus on key state-building priorities, including the implementation of the federal system, completion of the provisional constitution, national elections, and ensuring security and stability.
