Baghdad, (SONNA) — The President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, H.E. Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, delivered a keynote address at the 34th Arab League Summit held in Baghdad, Iraq, where he outlined Somalia’s national priorities and reaffirmed the country’s position on key regional and Arab issues.
In his address to fellow Arab leaders, President Hassan Sheikh highlighted Somalia’s ongoing efforts to rebuild state institutions, enhance security, combat terrorism, and promote economic growth. He emphasized that these efforts have contributed significantly to national reconstruction and the strengthening of Somali unity.
The President also reiterated Somalia’s unwavering support for the Palestinian cause, emphasizing the urgent need to stand in solidarity with the Palestinian people amid the ongoing aggression and humanitarian crisis in Gaza.
“The Palestinian cause is a test of our collective Arab conscience. As Somalis, we firmly believe in the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with Jerusalem as its capital,” President Hassan stated.
President Hassan further welcomed the lifting of sanctions on Syria, describing it as a positive step toward the country’s recovery and reintegration into the Arab community.
Concluding his remarks, the President expressed Somalia’s firm support for the unity, sovereignty, and stability of Sudan. He called on all parties in Sudan to safeguard national cohesion and work toward peaceful solutions to the ongoing conflict.
