Dar es Salaam, (SONNA) – The President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, H.E Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, delivered a keynote speech at the Africa Energy Summit, outlining Somalia’s plans to enhance energy capacity and quality as a foundation for the country’s modernization and development.
The President highlighted Somalia’s vast renewable energy potential, particularly solar and wind resources, which he described as future key sources for environmentally friendly energy production.
“The progress Somalia aspires to achieve requires affordable and accessible energy. Currently, 50% of our population lacks sufficient electricity. Therefore, we are prioritizing investments in the energy sector to enable the establishment of industries, modernization of infrastructure, and improvement of public services,” he stated.
Accompanied by Minister of Energy and Water Resources Abdullahi Bidhan Warsame and Minister of Finance Biixi Imaan Egeh, President Hassan Sheikh invited international stakeholders to invest in Somalia’s energy projects, emphasizing the country’s untapped potential as a significant and promising market.
The Africa Energy Summit, attended by leaders from across the continent, concluded with the “Dar es Salaam Declaration,” a commitment to ensuring access to sufficient electricity for 300 million Africans by 2030.
