Mogadishu(SONNA)-The President of the Federal Republic of Somalia and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, H.E. Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, accompanied by the Minister of Defence, H.E. Ahmed Moallim Fiqi, and the Commander of the Somali National Army, Brigadier General Ibrahim Mohamed Mohamud, today laid the foundation stone for the construction of the headquarters of the Somali National Army Orphans Care Agency.
The agency will play an important role in the care and upbringing of the children left behind by the heroes who sacrificed their lives in defence of the nation. It was recently approved by the Council of Ministers following a proposal submitted by the Ministry of Defence.
The establishment of this agency is a step that reflects the government’s commitment to safeguarding the rights and future of the children orphaned by members of the armed forces, so that they may have access to education, care, and a dignified life.
The foundation-laying ceremony coincided with 12 April, the 66th anniversary of the founding of the Somali National Army, a date of great national significance that recalls the struggle and sacrifice of the Somali armed forces.
